Textile Gallery

The Textile Gallery is deeply rooted in the historical significance of the "Ikat" technique, a term originating from the Indonesian word meaning "to tie" or "to bind," which has since been adopted into the global textile lexicon. Dating back thousands of years through Austronesian heritage and ancient maritime trade, this ancient resist-dyeing method represents the soul of Indonesian textile art. It is a painstaking process where individual threads are meticulously bundled, bound, and dyed in precise patterns before ever touching the loom, eventually being woven into complex, meaningful designs.

A living archive of the archipelago’s diverse weaving traditions is preserved within this sanctuary to celebrate the cultural identity of various ethnic groups. This expansive hall is specifically designed with an open layout so that the intricate textures and vibrant natural dyes of each fabric can be examined in great detail. Long panels of rare hand-woven cloths are displayed across the walls to tell stories of ancestral wisdom and spiritual beliefs. A quiet and respectful atmosphere is maintained to allow visitors to appreciate the slow, rhythmic labor required to create these masterpieces. This facility provides a rare opportunity for guests to witness the evolution of Indonesian craftsmanship within a spacious environment that highlights the fine artistry of every single fiber.
